Last week we were doing vocabulary work. My class of nine year olds were to try to work out the meaning of a word from either its context or by breaking it up into syllables and seeing if you know the meaning of any of the root words in it.
I've been at this craic long enough to know that no matter how off the wall an answer seems, if you examine it closely you can see the child's logic.
At first this one puzzled me, until I broke the word up.
Distinctive: A very bad smell that won't go away.
I think he deserved an A+ for that!
